It’s been an epic 12 months at WWF HQ. This is our biggest program yet, with more than 75 artists from four countries across 33 events!

And it’s in less than a month!

The theme for this year’s festival is ‘A Harbour for Creative Journeys’, and our 2016 program is filled with events that bring an ocean of ideas together for you to engage with and be creatively inspired.

Before we even get to the main festival weekend on 26th-27th November, we’ve got a bunch of special events to whet your appetite!

First up on Thursday 17th November, join us for Feminist Book Club with Mary van Reyk at Jane’s Café, where we’ll have a lively interactive discussion on Courtney Collins’ award-winning novel, The Burial.

On Wednesday 23rd November have a go at our Rock & Rhyme competition at Dicey Riley’s Hotel for your chance to win big prizes! Or if comedy tickles your funny bone, join our workshop How to Write the Funny Stuff at Jane’s Café to learn the art of stand-up with Stu MacPherson.

On Thursday 24th November don’t miss the Texas to the Gong Duet Slam at Jane’s Café, a unique, first-time poetry event featuring poets from Wollongong performing collaboratively with poets skyping in from Texas!

On Friday 25th November we’ve got a bunch of events at the Wollongong Art Gallery! Join us for some fascinating panels: at 1pm our panel South Asian Australian Stories explores the narratives of South Asian Australian writers and how they connect and evolve these two different cultural landscapes; at 3pm our panel Creative Dialogues: Funding available to Australian artists in a time of shrinking opportunities will offer tips and advice on funding applications to help boost your writing career or creative project!

Then at 7pm, kick off the 2016 Wollongong Writers Festival weekend at our launch party! There will be wine, food, live music by Big Erle, a performance by local poet, Lorin Reid, and we’ll be announcing the winner of our inaugural Short Story Competition!

Then we come to the main festival weekend: from November 26th-27th we’re bringing you two full days jam-packed with more than 17 engaging events for you to attend. Explore the full program now by visiting our Events page!
